RTP is a long-run average. A 96% RTP game does not return 96 cents from every dollar in a short session. Real outcomes are random and can move sharply above or below the average.
The faster you play, the more wagers you make per hour. More wagers means more exposure to the house edge. A small bet can still become expensive when the game moves quickly.
Volatility does not change the basic expected-loss formula, but it changes the ride. Higher volatility games can produce long dry spells, bigger hits, and shorter real sessions.
