Big Eye Boy is a derived baccarat roadmap built from the shape of the Big Road. It does not record direct Banker and Player wins. Instead, it converts comparisons between Big Road columns into red or blue hollow circles.
The most important warning is immediate: on Big Eye Boy, red does not mean Banker and blue does not mean Player. The colors describe whether the recent Big Road structure matches the road’s comparison rule.
Where it sits on a baccarat display
A full baccarat display may show several histories at once:

Big Eye Boy is therefore the first and most immediate of the three common derived roads. It reacts to the Big Road only after enough columns exist to make a comparison.
When Big Eye Boy begins
The road does not start with the first hand of the shoe.
Under the standard construction, its first possible mark corresponds to:
- the second result in the second Big Road column; or
- if the second column never reaches a second row, the first result in the third Big Road column.
That delay is necessary because the road needs earlier Big Road structure to compare. A derived road cannot produce information before its reference positions exist.
Ties usually do not create a separate Big Road cell, so they do not create a new Big Eye Boy mark by themselves. The tie is attached to the latest Banker or Player result according to the display’s Big Road convention.
The two situations the algorithm checks
Every new non-tie Banker or Player result either starts a new Big Road column or continues the current column. Big Eye Boy handles those situations differently.
When a new Big Road column starts
A new column means the result switched from Banker to Player or from Player to Banker. Big Eye Boy compares the lengths of the two completed Big Road columns immediately before the new one.
- Same length: red hollow circle.
- Different lengths: blue hollow circle.
Example: suppose the previous two Big Road columns each contain two results. The next hand switches sides and starts a new column. Because the two earlier column lengths match, the derived mark is red.
If those columns had lengths two and four, the mark would be blue.
The colors of the original Big Road columns do not matter for this comparison. Only their structure matters.
When the current Big Road column continues downward
If the same side wins again, the current Big Road column grows. Big Eye Boy compares the new position with the corresponding position in the previous Big Road column.
A practical way to read the standard rule is:
- If the previous column already reaches the same row, mark red: the new result is “connected” to comparable structure.
- If the new result is exactly one row beyond the previous column, mark blue: the lengths have just become uneven.
- If the current column continues farther beyond that first unmatched row, later tail marks return to red: the extended column has become a consistent long run under the road’s rule.
This last point is why a long streak does not produce blue forever. The first structural break can be blue, while an established extended tail can generate red marks.
A complete column-length example
Consider Big Road column lengths developing as follows:

The first result in the third column starts a new column. The two earlier columns both have length two, so Big Eye Boy records red.
Now suppose the third column continues:

This table is a construction example, not a betting signal. It shows how the same Big Road column can generate different derived colors as its length changes.
How marks are placed on Big Eye Boy itself
After the algorithm decides red or blue, the mark is placed on the Big Eye Boy grid using road-style plotting:
- a mark of the same color normally continues downward;
- a color change begins a new column;
- when the bottom row or an occupied cell blocks downward movement, the sequence turns right according to the display layout.
This means Big Eye Boy has two layers of logic. First, the Big Road comparison determines the color. Second, the Big Eye Boy grid arranges consecutive marks of that color.
A player looking only at the final derived grid does not see the Banker/Player sequence directly. To reconstruct why a mark appeared, the player must return to the relevant positions on the Big Road.
What red and blue actually mean
Players often translate the colors into words such as “order” and “chaos,” or “consistent” and “choppy.” Those descriptions are shorthand, not additional mathematics.
Red means the Big Road satisfied the road’s matching or established-tail condition. Blue means it satisfied the nonmatching condition. The road does not test whether the cards are becoming predictable. It tests whether two pieces of the already-recorded layout meet a formatting rule.
The Washington State baccarat game description gives a formal example of this cell-comparison method, describing red when the compared cells are the same state and blue when they differ. Display manufacturers may present the instructions differently, so the help screen for the specific product should be used when reconstructing its roadmap.
Why Big Eye Boy cannot predict the next hand
The derived mark is calculated after a Banker or Player result is known and added to the Big Road. It summarizes the effect of that past result on a chart.
It does not reveal:
- the order of undealt cards;
- the next Player or Banker total;
- whether a natural will occur;
- whether a third card will be drawn;
- or a change in the payout or house edge.
Some displays offer “Ask Banker” and “Ask Player” buttons. Those features show what the derived-road colors would become if the next result were Banker or Player. They do not estimate which result is more likely. Both hypothetical branches can be calculated because the function is deterministic once an assumed result is supplied.
Casino-side purpose
Big Eye Boy is a customer-facing display feature. It gives roadmap users a familiar way to discuss shoe structure and makes electronic scoreboards more useful to players who expect traditional derived roads.
It is not used to settle the hand. Dealers and supervisors settle baccarat from the cards, the drawing rules, and the approved payout schedule. If a display mark is wrong, the cards and game records control the result; the derived road does not overrule them.
From an operations perspective, the important controls are accurate result entry, correct synchronization between shoe and display, and a clear reset at the start of a new shoe.
Common reading mistakes
Reading red as Banker. That color association belongs to the Big Road and many Bead Plates, not to the derived-road meaning.
Counting ties as new columns. A tie is normally attached to the previous Big Road result rather than opening a new Banker/Player column.
Treating a long red sequence as evidence of a future streak. It shows that earlier Big Road positions repeatedly met the red rule.
Looking at Big Eye Boy without the Big Road. The derived chart is difficult to interpret correctly when its source road is ignored.
Assuming every display uses identical labels. “Big Eye Boy,” “Big Eye Road,” and translated names can refer to the same road, while graphic conventions may differ.
The useful definition
Big Eye Boy is best understood as a deterministic transformation of past Big Road structure. It is more abstract than a result history and less informative than many players imagine. Once the start point and the two comparison cases are understood, the chart stops being mysterious: it is a visual rule, not a forecasting engine.
